pretty whites

i love the fresh clean look of white walls….whether you’re decorating in a more modern way or vintagey look, it comes together beautifully with white walls……

this first image started with white underfoot and has minimal color which makes the furnishings stand out more so……

everything white…..

i know, we see a lot of white in decor magazines and books, but do we ever really get tired of it?

home office decorating ideas

here’s a couple images for a little inspiration for designing a home office… most of us can’t get by without some sort of place to put all the necessary paper work and bills, so why not design your work space to reflect  your decorating style…..

rugs, start from the ground up

here’s an idea…create a room a round a rug…..

often times, when decorating, the flooring gets overlooked until the end of the project…well, why not start with the rug and build up……

living room decorating ideas

one of my favorite living room decorating ideas is to paint it in bright colors!!! or add a few splashes of color like a way cool chandelier…..

why not paint an old piece of furniture in bright pink, turquoise, or granny smith apple green…..what about a harlequin look in black and white…..there are many ways to add color without painting the whole room….add a rug, for example….some throw pillows….art or frames painted bright colors for added color on your walls…..the list goes on…check out these images for a few ideas and inspiration…..

tropical color craze

ran across these images at coastal living that i thought i would share with you……i’m  interrupting my coverage of the warehouse district to bring you this post…..

abstract art

this is one of my pieces i thought i might share with you….this leads very nicely into the next posts on neutrals…..this piece is titled “morgaine” and is oil on canvas………a piece like this takes several months to create (doesn’t look like it though-i know) but there are multiple layers of paint and i need to let them dry in between layers…. hope you enjoy….

neutral territory…..

i have a tendency to gravitate towards bright colors (and shiny objects) so these next images are a bit more subdued for me…i really like houses that are in neutrals because of the zen like feel…they are calm, relaxing and easy on the eyes….what these rooms offer for variety, and to keep them from going flat is texture……rugs, lamps, mirrors and wood keep the room dynamic….

this first image is one of my favorites…..the pillow and ottoman provide the only color in the living room scene…..to change up the colors, change the pillow and ottoman….easy and simple…..

this next image of another living room has the same concept as the above….the  color in this room comes from the pillows, too……white backdrops are so versitile……

and this last image the chairs and the foot stool contribute subtle coloration to this room….as does the lamp…..small things add up to create a complete look…..

the dark floors in this last image lend some depth to this room…..

hot pink

i’m really finding hot pink exciting again….it really wakes you up…….check out these images and see if you don’t agree………

it’s vibrant but not too over the top……and for a little more subdued, this next image limits the color to the walls, yet is picked up by the pillows on the sofa….

this image shows a small scale living room with only a little of the pink, but placed in highly effective areas like the photo gallery can still give the feel of a lot more color…..

…and this last image of the bombay chest is divine….you could limit the color to just one item and still have the effect of the color….this is a show stopper…..

this is a very nice piece…..lovely abstract with turquoise…..large canvases give a room height….sometimes lacking in the DIY decorating….so don’t forget your paintings when planning a rooms layout….we often look at the floor plan and place furniture but then neglect the walls…..

………support your local artist…….buy real art!!!!!!!!!!
